Position Overview
We’re seeking an experienced and highly skilled Head of Finance to establish and lead the financial operations of our fast-growing startup. As the first finance hire, you will have the opportunity to build scalable systems, optimize revenue models, and shape the company’s financial strategy from the ground up. This pivotal role requires expertise in accounting, compliance, and financial planning, combined with a strategic mindset to support our ambitious growth objectives.
Note: A CPA license and an MBA are required for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping
Oversee accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash flow management.
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, ensuring timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
Manage bank reconciliations and ensure compliance with GAAP.
Tax & Compliance
Handle all tax filings (federal, state, and local) or coordinate with external CPA firms when necessary.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including tax laws and equity structures.
Research and implement tax credits and incentives for startups, such as R&D credits.
Financial Strategy & Analysis
Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and financial models to guide strategic decisions.
Analyze profit and loss (P&L) statements to identify trends, improve profitability, and provide actionable insights.
Optimize revenue strategies while monitoring key metrics like CAC, LTV, and churn.
Partner with the leadership team on pricing strategies, partnerships, and evaluating the financial feasibility of new initiatives.
Fundraising & Investor Relations
Prepare financial materials for fundraising efforts, including pitch decks and financial projections.
Manage cap tables, equity distribution, and investor reporting.
Collaborate with the CEO to ensure audit-ready financial transparency for investors.
Leadership & Team Building
Provide leadership in financial planning and execution, fostering financial discipline and accountability.
Prepare to scale the finance function by building and mentoring a team as the company grows.
Adapt to evolving business needs, requirements, and expectations, ensuring financial strategies and operations remain aligned with company growth.
Systems & Tools Implementation
Evaluate and implement financial tools and automation systems to streamline processes.
Integrate systems like Stripe, PayPal, or others to manage revenue tracking efficiently.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications:
CPA license and an MBA are mandatory.
5–10 years of experience in finance/accounting, including leadership roles in startups or high-growth companies.
Proven ability to build and scale financial systems from scratch.
Strong understanding of SaaS or mobile app revenue models and metrics like CAC, LTV, and churn.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and provide strategic insights.
Experience with revenue cycle management and corporate finance principles.
Exceptional communication skills to present financial insights clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
